Why give to IWRC?
-
Our Mission
The International Refugee Women's Center (IWRC) empowers refugees and humans experiencing displacement through literacy programs that foster knowledge, resilience, and personal growth. We empower our participants to gain knowledge and skills, but we also empower them to live rich, robust lives filled with community and joy.
-
Our Programming
Our participants match with qualified volunteer tutors who customize learning plans to help participants meet their goals. Participants registered for tutoring are also welcome to join any of our group English classes and cultural literacy workshops. All of IWRC’s programming is free for participants.
-
Our Dedication
We firmly believe that all individuals, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity, have the inalienable right to live with dignity, respect, and equality. We stand in solidarity with the LGBTQIA+ community and understand the unique and often harrowing challenges LGBTQIA+ refugees and immigrants face.
-
Our 501(c)(3) Status
Nonprofits like the International Women's Resource Center, which rely heavily on federal funding, are struggling. We continue our work despite the constant threat of funding cuts without warning. Donating to IWRC is a statement of purpose and power, a vote with your dollars! Every donation allows us to continue providing essential services to our participants, broadens our reach, and increases our impact.

Our Platform
Our online platforms provide credible, fact-checked information about displacement and education. Terminology is vital to understanding the context and legal distinctions between refugees and immigrants. Although the general public often uses these terms interchangeably, there are crucial distinctions between "refugee," "immigrant," etc. Learning the technical terms and their definitions is essential in understanding the legal rights of refugees and preventing the spread of misinformation.
Here’s what people are saying about IWRC…
“I wanted to feel connected to a community outside my family, friends, and colleagues, so I searched for volunteer opportunities and found IWRC. ”
- Ezinne, IWRC Volunteer
“I am grateful to our tutors for the great atmosphere during the classes, their deep knowledge of the language, and their ability to explain all the topics in a simple and understandable manner while making a lot of examples from daily life.”
- Nastia, IWRC Participant
“My tutor is a very empathetic and patient person with me. She is helping me have more confidence in my speaking and has taught me many new words I didn’t know. I know I still have a long way to go to reach my goal of being able to speak like a native, but I know that I'm on the right way.”
